Acrophobia definition/meaning

Although many sites may tell you that acrophobia is a morbid fear of falling from great heights, they’re incorrect. If you or someone you know has Acrophobia, the height of the living room carpet can be all they need to set their teeth chattering.

What causes acrophobia?/is fear of heights genetic?

You may think you’ve had this fear all of your life, you haven’t! At some point an adult has lifted you up too high, swung you around and basically scared you. This is probably why acrophobia is one of the most common fears. I regularly see them being installed in children’s playgrounds, especially a swimming pool or the beach. The next time you’re in one of these environments, have a look around and watch parents throwing their children up into the air and catching them. For some children it’s fun and exciting and for others, like you reading this, it’s a lifelong fear installed in a moment.

Fear of falling from heights

Symptoms of fear of falling from heights (Acrophobia) can sometimes be hidden e.g., there will be certain shopping malls that you will avoid, these places have things such as glass elevators, escalators and stairways where you can see through the gaps in the stairs. All of these are phobia triggers. Hobbies such as mountain climbing, swimming and hand gliding all have obvious acrophobic associations. I’m sure you’re now wondering what swimming has to do with a height phobia!!!! EVERTHING….. one thing everybody with a height phobia is told is don’t look down, you can look anywhere you want but don’t look down. When you are swimming in shallow water it’s not so bad because you can see the bottom, but as you start swimming further out the bottom gets further away and you get higher up. Well, you don’t really, but your mind makes it seem that way.

Around 2018 I was asked by a lot of people to work with a young girl who had developed fits and seizures. The parents had put out a call on the internet, so I reached out to help. The little girl’s body was locking rigid for a few minutes at a time, the ‘professionals’ were all scratching their heads, taking various bloods from her, to try and figure out what was happening. After a short scan of the father’s Facebook posts from 2 weeks prior to the attacks, the answer was clear… Her father (a sky diver) decided to take his young daughter with him to jump out of an aeroplane strapped to his chest. The traumatic experience that the child’s mind suffered was now playing out, in an attempt to clear the emotional overload, caused by the leap into the abyss. Unfortunately I can’t say this story has a happy ending as the parents never got in touch.

Natural remedies for acrophobia

The most natural remedy for acrophobia has been designed by me and takes less than 1 minute to apply. I have been using this technique for years now, the link below will take you to the product that delivers this to you. As for other natural remedies, sedatives and alcohol may help to calm your nerves and give you a little Dutch courage but alternatively it can pour petrol on the fire, as your stress response will kick in. My partner Lisa had a height phobia when we first met, I cleared this using my standard technique. Around a year later she visited The Shard in London with her sister, I had also switched her sister’s height phobia off too. When they reached the top of this building and stepped onto the observation deck, Paula, Lisa’s sister excitedly announced that her fear of heights had gone! This caused Lisa, who was at this point right on the edge of the deck absorbing the view to screech excitedly in response because she’d forgotten that she previously had a height phobia too.

How to get over fear of heights – acrophobia

Your acrophobia is not a natural fear, it’s learnt, so to get over it you have to ‘unlearn’ it. This is a process of un-hypnotizing or de-hypnotizing you. Your mind continually shows you standing on the edge of the abyss, that’s why you feel like you are always about to fall over the edge. Pushing yourself to beat your subconscious mind, is not a good idea, because you will fail. Relaxing and removing the fear gently through hypnosis is a much simpler way forward. There is also my revolutionary ‘acrophobia cure’ that takes about 20 seconds!

My Audio Download

All of these places are off limits if you have acrophobia, and yet it can take only a few minutes to cure. Your mind causes you to think that there is a huge hole just beneath your feet and that you are going to fall in. Sometimes, acrophobics report that they feel compelled to throw themselves over the edge of bridges, hence they avoid them. Just the thought of being up high can ignite your amygdala, causing an instant negative emotion that triggers your fear to begin.

Although it’s not always viewed as a serious problem, having a fear of heights can massively impact on your self-esteem and self-confidence.
