Description
Would you like to be able to observe the here and now that others around you are observing?
In a psychotic episode, a person loses touch with reality as other people see it. They might hear voices, see or feel things that aren’t there, feel paranoid or believe things that don’t rationally make sense. There are two main symptoms of psychosis, hallucinations and delusions. The combination of hallucinations and delusional thinking can often severely disrupt perception, thinking, emotion, and behaviour. How often a psychotic episode occurs and how long it lasts can depend on the underlying cause. For example, schizophrenia can be long term, but most people can make a good recovery and about a quarter only have a single psychotic episode. Episodes related to bipolar disorder usually resolve, but may recur.
The Scottish psychiatrist R.D. Laing wrote extensively on the subject of โmental illness.โ He believed that a personโs journey should be validated and accepted as real for them; his argument is still as valid today. Laing was against treating mental health with pharmaceutical intervention, he highlighted the derivation ofย Schizophrenia: Schiz โ broken, phrenia/ phronos โ meaning heart or mind, so he argued how can one medicate for a broken heart or mind? Just a thoughtโฆ

Why this works
When the mind loses touch with the here and now, it has usually gone somewhere it once needed to go to survive. That somewhere is an Emotional Memory Image โ a picture the mind took in a split second of overwhelm and has been replaying ever since, firing the stress response every time. Clear the image and the body has nothing left to react to. If you would like to understand the science before you begin, start with What is an Emotional Memory Image?, or read how undiagnosed trauma becomes dis-ease.
