What constipation can cause

Constipation is a symptom which can cause blood in your stool, abdominal pain and pain during bowel movements.

What are the causes of constipation/what makes you constipated?

The causes of constipation are poor dietary fibre and inadequate water intake. Lack of exercise, certain medications, changes to your routine and stress also makes you constipated.

What to do about constipation?

The best thing to do about constipation is to take everything in moderation. Increase your water intake to rehydrate your body, decrease your alcohol and caffeine intakes as they also cause dehydration. Add more fibre rich foods to your diet, cut out processed foods, take some light exercise or a thirty minute walk.

How long can you go without pooping

There is no definitive answer to how long you can go without pooping. For some people it can be a few days but there are others who can go up to a month or longer and still have a fit and healthy life.

Chronic constipation causes

There are several causes of chronic constipation – lack of high fibre foods, too many processed or sugary foods, excess alcohol or caffeine, not enough water, ignoring the urge for bowel movement and lack of exercise.

Severe constipation symptoms

Severe constipation symptoms can include haemorrhoids, as veins in the rectum can become swollen and inflamed. Anal fissures are tears in the lining of your anus, caused by hardened stools trying to pass. Diverticulitis is caused when a stool sits too long in your colon, the colon wall can become infected. Fecal impaction is a condition whereby too much stoop/poop has built up in the rectum and anus. Finally, stress urinary incontinence is caused by too much straining to move your bowels. The pelvic floor muscles are damaged in this process, which impacts bladder control.

How to stop constipation

The best way to stop constipation is to keep your body hydrated with water, cut back on alcohol and caffeine, eat plenty of fibre rich foods and take plenty of exercise. Don’t worry if your bowel movements are once a month, that might be normal for you. As long as you feel otherwise fit and healthy then this shouldn’t cause too much of a problem.

Constipation treatment for adults

Constipation treatment for adults include drinking 2 to 4 additional glasses of water per day, high fibre diet, cut out caffeine, alcohol, sugar and processed foods, eat prunes and bran cereal. Include for exercise in your daily regime. In extreme cases you may need to use a laxative, many of these are available from your local pharmacy.

Constipation relief hypnosis

Hypnosis may seem a strange choice for the relief of constipation, however bowel movements happen subconsciously. Hypnosis can therefore be used to directly impact the subconscious mind, which can give constipation relief.
